Job Description


The role


The position will be responsible for providing legal support and advice across the 26 markets in which Global Forwarding operates, as well as in other jurisdictions as required. This position will work with Lead Counsel to ensure the focus areas and activities of the business unit are holistically carried out in line with Toll Group ‘One Toll’ strategy and Toll values, which focus around Customer, Teamwork, Progress, Integrity & Accountability.


Commercial Activity


  • Provide quality and timely legal support and advice to all 25 markets that make up the Global Forwarding business and management generally (and other Toll businesses as required) under the guidance and direction of the Senior Legal Counsel – Global Forwarding.
  • With Lead Counsel, oversee management and progress of all GF litigation, including managing external counsel, recommending strategy for resolution and preparing regular reports for Chief Legal Officer.
  • Provide regular training to the business on a variety of topics, including effective claims management, ways of working with Legal, contract negotiation
  • Ensure corporate governance rules and processes are maintained and enforced
  • Work closely with the business in understanding the service industry & commercial requirements when considering legal issues.
  • Work closely with the other corporate functions on a daily basis or to contribute to wider projects basis.
  • Take the initiative to identify work processes and provide recommendation so to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Support workload of other lawyers within the Global Forwarding legal team


Education and Communication


  • Educate and inform Global Forwarding management about Toll Group and Global Forwarding policies, legal requirements and obligations of particular importance to the Global Forwarding Businesses, including laws governing competition, corrupt practices, applicable foreign investment regimes and transport and logistics law developments in each jurisdiction
  • Keep abreast of latest legal developments in general for the Global Forwarding Businesses in particular.


Qualifications


  • Degree in Law. Admitted as a Legal Practitioner with current unrestricted legal practising certificate in Singapore.
  • At least 4 – 6 years’ post qualification experience.
  • Extensive experience in commercial agreements including drafting, negotiating and settling contracts.
  • Experience and/or expertise in carriage of goods, international transportation (ocean, air, rail, road), warehousing and logistics, servicing major corporate customers would be considered very valuable.
  • Experience working in multi-national corporations and across jurisdictions
  • Experience in leading face-to-face negotiations in relation to complex transactions.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship building skills.
