About this role: The purpose of this role is to provide effective legal counsel to assigned business functions or teams within a global BF/BU or Corporate function or lead the function for a country organization, acting as a legal advisor and Business Partner, negotiating contracts, managing litigation and providing counseling on substantive area legal issues. To handle legal projects, transactions, and the Legal function for a small-medium country/cluster of countries or manage a legal substantive area in larger countries/region.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as a legal Business Partner to the Country Head in all activities relating to the contractual negotiations and statutory obligations.
Draft complex transactions and contracts independently and provide complex and contextual legal advice and guidance (incl. training of key customers in specified legal areas).
Identify risks relating to business activities and potential solutions thereof; raise business’ awareness of legal issues and ensure early legal involvement.
Conduct robust risk assessments that substantiate recommendations and advise on and determine appropriate actions to support the management decision processes.
Manage significant disputes and litigation and/or investigations and make decisions independently within a broad framework.
Guide, counsel and support the work of more junior Legal counsels, paralegals and support staff.
Provide expertise in one or more substantive areas (e.g. Transactions, Litigation, HR and Regulatory), lead legal projects and transactions (i.e.: Licensing and Divestment).
Lead, direct and develop the legal resources within one division or across all divisions in the country (depending on whether divisional or cross-divisional role).
Reporting of technical complaints / adverse events / special case scenarios related to Novartis products within 24 hours of receipt

Role Requirements
Essential Requirements:
University level degree and equivalent experience in law and bar admission in SEA or other jurisdiction.
Proficient in English both written and spoken, excellent communication skills. Other languages are a plus.
At least 8 years of experience ideally gained within a healthcare / pharmaceutical environment (for example in a Pharma/Biotech company), or alternatively, with a top-tier law firm representing healthcare & technology clients.
Substantial expertise related to commercial, policy, and regulatory environment (Pharma law).
Understanding of both the Legal and Compliance view toward risk and regulatory issues.
Ability to analyse complex legal issues
Proven ability to work well under time pressure & with demanding teams
Able to handle a high volume of activity involving multiple, often complex, projects simultaneously
Pragmatic, collaborative, culturally sensitive and business focused approach
