Legal & Compliance Officer, Singapore

The role of Legal & Compliance (L&C) Officer, Singapore will be based in Singapore. Reporting to the Marsh Mercer Singapore and Myanmar Chief Counsel, the L&C Officer will work under the supervision of more senior L&C team members in collaborating with the Marsh Mercer business and management to understand the business environment and strategy in order to advise and provide guidance on potential risks, with particular focus on regulatory advisory matters. The L&C Officer will regularly engage with the local regulators and ensure compliance of Marsh Mercer with applicable law / regulation. He / she will also collaborate in implementing Marsh Mercer legal and compliance strategy, processes, and goals across Marsh Mercer operations.

We will count on you to:
Providing analysis and counsel on a range of legal issues, including corporate issues, business structures and models, M&A, property related issues, employment issues, insurance, and reinsurance under Singapore law
Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and related documents for the procurement or provision of goods and services, confidentiality of proprietary information, employment, leases of space and equipment, and software licenses
Assisting with regulatory advisory work under local law in Singapore
Anticipating and identifying legal issues in Singapore of concern to the senior management team and developing legal strategies and solutions, often in situations of high risk with limited time for assessing alternatives
Analysing a broad range of laws and regulations in Singapore affecting the operations of Marsh Mercer including those arising from corporate structures and business models
Assisting senior lawyers and other members of the LCPA department on more complex issues as well as with the development of templates
Engaging outside counsel on complex legal issues, and supervising and coordinating all work sent to external law firms
Reviewing regulations / directives and global / regional policies and explaining their requirements and applicability to Marsh Mercer colleagues
Developing procedures, processes, and policies to support the legal and compliance function, in conjunction with all internal and external standards and regulations
Assisting in internal investigations and making related recommendations to the relevant committees for consequences of potential non-compliance based on facts identified through the investigation process
Ensuring effective processes exist to address Errors & Omissions (“E&O”) prevention and mitigation. Triaging, investigating, mitigating, and closing E&O claims as well as assisting in reviewing claims history, identifying trends, and developing awareness education to avoid repeatable incidents
Supporting and implementing global / regional legal and compliance efforts for Marsh Mercer and promoting an ethical and legally compliant business culture. Partnering with the business, management, and regional teams to achieve desired compliance results
Under general supervision primarily handling specialized compliance matters and projects, including research, data compilation and synthesis, report drafting, performing monitoring or assessment and task management for assigned areas such as implementation of new regulations and internal policies and licensing
Actively participating on appropriate executive, leadership and / or operating committees
What you need to have:
Recognised legal qualifications from Singapore and admitted to practice in Singapore
1 to 3 years of post-qualification experience in a law firm or in-house role
Experience of regulatory advisory work, preferably in insurance or financial services sectors
Experience handling contract reviews, drafting and negotiation
Experience handling employment and litigation matters
Excellent drafting and organizational skills
Ability to analyse complex legal problems quickly and concisely without direct supervision
Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment even in ambiguous situations
Confidence and ability to deal with senior stakeholders
