Assistant Counsel (Commercial & Litigation), Marsh Mercer Asia

We will count on you to:



  • Advising on and negotiating contractual arrangements with clients, vendors and other third parties across the region, including global and regional master services agreements as appropriate
  • Advising on and handling dispute resolution and litigation matters in an efficient and practical manner.
  • Ensuring effective processes exist to address Errors & Omissions (“E&O”) prevention and mitigation. Triaging, investigating, mitigating, and closing E&O claims as well as assisting in reviewing claims history, identifying trends, and developing awareness education to avoid repeatable incidents
  • Providing training on various legal matters spanning contracting, E&Os, etc.
  • Providing analysis and counsel on a range of legal issues, including corporate and commercial issues, business structures and models, M&A, insurance and reinsurance, and consulting matters
  • Developing contract strategy and templates for use across the region
  • Collaborating with in-country LCPA colleagues to (i) anticipate and identify local legal and regulatory issues and developing legal strategies and solutions (often in situations of high risk with limited time for assessing alternatives); and (ii) analyse a broad range of laws and regulations affecting the operations of the business including those arising from corporate structures and business models
  • Assisting senior lawyers and other members of the LCPA department on more complex issues as required
  • Engaging external counsel on complex legal issues, and supervising and coordinating all work sent to external counsel
  • Reviewing regulations / directives and global / regional policies and explaining their requirements and applicability to colleagues
  • Developing procedures, processes and policies to support the LCPA function, in conjunction with all internal and external standards and regulations
  • Actively participating on appropriate executive, leadership, and / or operating committees


What you need to have:



  • Recognised legal qualifications from Singapore and admitted to practice in Singapore
  • Minimum 3 years of post-qualification experience in a law firm or relevant in-house role
  • Experience in regulatory advisory work, preferably in insurance or financial services sectors
  • Experience handling contract reviews, drafting and negotiation
  • Experience handling dispute resolution and litigation matters
  • Excellent drafting and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyse complex legal problems quickly and concisely without direct supervision
  • Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment even in ambiguous situations
  • Confidence and ability to deal with senior stakeholders
