We are recruiting for a Legal Counsel to join our Asia Pacific Legal & Compliance team and based in Singapore. This is an opportunity to join one of the largest asset managers in the world. Capital Group is an evolving business operating in a highly regulated environment; this team is involved in guiding decisions that will make a major impact on and deliver success to the business. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting this effort in the Asia Pacific region, in coordination with the Global Legal & Compliance team.
The Asia Pacific Legal & Compliance team currently has 16 members situated in Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney. It is a highly collaborative group, and the candidate will work closely with members across the team in Asia Pacific, as well as associates from various business areas and locations globally.
Primary Responsibilities/essential Functions (applicable To All Responsibility Areas)
- Provide day to day legal support for multiple business areas across the entities within Asia Pacific (e.g. investments, including portfolio management and trading, investment operations, and sales and distribution) by providing comprehensive legal advice, solutions and support in all aspects of the asset management business. This includes reviewing distribution agreements, investment agreements and investment management agreements, and supporting new products development and distribution.
- Review other corporate agreements including vendor contracts and non-disclosure agreements.
- Interact with external counsel, advisers, auditors and regulators.
- Work with Compliance, Risk and the business to prevent, mitigate and control legal risks
- Work with Compliance to provide day to day advisory support to the business
- Advice on financial services and non-financial services regulations (such as data protection, information and cyber security) which are applicable to the business.
- Work with compliance to analyze new regulations and impact of implementation to business practices. Propose appropriate solutions and implementation strategies in response to evolving regulations.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

- Prior experience in Derivatives, Exchange Traded Funds and Alternative assets is a plus.
Core Requirements
- At least 5- 7 years of experience at a top ranked law firm or in-house with a financial services or investment management firm
- Excellent oral and written communication, analytical, organizational and strategic thinking skills
- Understanding of how to balance legal risks with business objectives and successfully get projects completed timely
- Fluency in English; Chinese-language (both spoken and written) will be highly regarded
In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital's annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
