About The Team
The Global Payment business (referred to as PIPO) provides an important role helping with the monetization of Bytedance products, but is also in the heavily regulated industry of financial services that requires a specific expertise and attention to regulatory compliance requirements. PIPO's Global Legal BP team reports directly into the Global Legal Compliance organization and serves PIPO's businesses as the generalists experts. The ideal candidate will have a background in payments and/or white collar criminal and legal investigations to be able to understand the business, as well as excellent judgment, acute ability to identify issues of first impression, and have the courage to counsel a fast-moving business.
Responsibilities
Advise on a range of issues including commercial, consumer protection, marketing, intellectual property, KYC, risk assessment/compliance and data privacy related to the payments businesses worldwide
Structure, draft and negotiate a wide range of agreements with our various partners
Actively collaborate with a wide variety of internal stakeholders, including product, engineering, compliance, marketing, business development, risk on a range of issues related to product development and commercialization of global payment projects and services
Work closely with colleagues across the global legal team to advise on general issues in connection with the launch of projects or programs in the destination countries/regions
Help build scalable and effective processes for legal review and launch of new features and products
Participate as a proactive business partner for senior managers and build a trusted advisor relationship
Qualifications
Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 5 years experience ( either in-house or top law firm), preferred with 2+ years in the fintech or white collar area. Global exposure and experience gained in the Fintech startup space would be highly advantageous.
Familiar with the electronic financial services sector to navigate payments-related matters and money service business compliance requirements, anti-money laundering rules, know-your-customer requirements, and stored value systems.
An entrepreneurial spirit – a self-starter who thrives in a fast paced environment, deals well with ambiguity and focuses on driving impact.
A passion for technology and the ability to understand complex business models and product use cases quickly
Excellent judgment and capable of making smart decisions with imperfect information.
Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and presentation skills.
Independent, hard-working, well organized and able to prioritize and manage numerous projects simultaneously and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
