Job Summary Barings LLC (“Barings”) is looking for an Assistant General Counsel to join the Corporate Legal Team in Hong Kong or Singapore. The successful candidate will partner across our global organization to provide support, guidance and general in-house legal advice to the Asia Pacific teams on local matters. Working across an international platform as well as a close-knit regional team, the right individual will require a pragmatic approach with exposure to a diverse and broad range of responsibilities. The Global Legal mission is to provide legal support and advice with the goal of managing and mitigating legal risk for the company and acting as a partner to our internal business clients supporting any legal needs that arise on a day to day basis. Primary Responsibilities
Advising on regulatory issues and interpretation of laws.
Drafting and reviewing legal documents, including distribution agreements and investment management agreements.
Advising on legal matters and collaborating with various stakeholders to engage, build and maintain relationships while mitigating legal risks.
Liaising with external counsel on legal issues and helping manage external counsel relationships.
Assisting with corporate governance oversight.
Supporting global or regional transactional projects and other ad hoc projects.
Coordinating with colleagues in other regions on major projects and items of common interest, including common approaches to risks and governance.
Qualifications
Law degree from a recognized university
5-10 years PQE, either in-house or a major law firm with focus on asset management, private funds, semi-liquid offerings, wealth management or distribution.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to interact and build effective relationships with internal and external partners
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member, and use independent and professional judgment with minimal supervision
Strong organizational skills and proven ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines while paying attention to details, ensuring a high standard of work
Must be willing to comply with the provisions of Baring’s Code of Ethics related to personal securities activities and other disclosure and certification requirements
